New York, Dec. 1, 2011— Professor John C. Coffee Jr., the Adolf A. Berle Professor of Law at Columbia Law School, testified before two U.S. Senate committees today.
This morning, he testified (below) at a hearing before the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs titled “Spurring Job Growth Through Capital Formation While Protecting Investors.” The topic was the degree to which Congress should relax the federal securities laws and lower investor protection standards to encourage job creation.
This afternoon, Coffee testified at a hearing before the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs titled “Insider Trading and Congressional Accountability.” The topic was whether members of Congress are exempt from prohibitions on insider trading.
