Comment by Professor Michael Gerrard, Director of Columbia Law School’s Center for Climate Change Law, on Climate Change Statement Made by President Obama During Inaugural Speech
President Obama’s resounding acknowledgment of the “overwhelming judgment of science” that climate change threatens today’s and future generations clearly means that his second administration will use its existing statutory powers to control greenhouse gases. We can hope that he will now be able to persuade Congress at last to enact laws that are targeted to address this crisis and cope with its impacts.
