The first of CSIL's film festival series, this panel of expert advocates will focus on the Tigray War and the ongoing atrocities that have persisted against Tigrayans and other ethnic groups in Ethiopia. Speakers with different specializations will provide connections to international law, discussing the role and failures of international organizations in preventing ethnic cleansing and supporting the Ethiopian government that has committed the atrocities. Rahwa Behre is a Tigrayan activist in the tech space, focused on the role of censorship and resilient technologies in preventing impartial evidentiary collection and advocating for the visibility of the Tigrayan voices on the international level. Betsir Zemen, a Tigrayan activist at the International NGO Health Professional Network for Tigray, is primarily involved in intersecting advocacy for humanitarian needs with advocacy for justice and accountability. She has conducted advocacy efforts both at the congressional and UN levels and continues to work in joint efforts with other NGOs to document, publicize, and critique the ongoing humanitarian disaster in different regions of Ethiopia.
